Artist Statement
My inspiration comes
directly from observing the colors, shapes and textures of the natural world.
The momentary patterns we experience through various atmospheric conditions
that are revealed under layers of raw luminosity. Be it quiet or loud, heavy or
loose, layered or flat, these natural abstractions are forever shifting,
fleeting, immediate and completely original within their specific locality.
In trying to capture
these observations, I begin each piece with a loose line drawing that comes
intuitively – a steady mark that serves to lay the foundation and infuse the
work with a structural sense of space. I then add layers of paint to create a
history and an underlying feel of energy and movement - continuously adjusting
to develop various intersections of line quality, as the process of adding and
subtracting refines the balance of each finalized piece.
In essence, I am working intuitively
within my own emotional and spiritual landscape to translate my experience of
the physical world. I am attempting to capture the organic sensation of being
alive within a world of endless colors, lines and textures.
